I think this is an astounding manipulation. What grabs me with this is the tremendous depth of field, which makes the viewer really feel like they are right there, perhaps behind the camera snapping this photo rather than it being a manipulation. The way the subject is in focus compared to her softened and blurred surroundings is spot-on perfect. I love the use of the webs against this dark and intimidating background. The model's facial expression also fits this manipulation perfectly. Topping it off with the aging, sepia-like overtones while keeping the composition of this simple, you've created a gorgeous, effective, inspiring and fantastic manipulation.

Ah. A sensitive portrait. Of course, it is dark - but the first impression is of a sort of Rembrantian darkness. The lighting is magical. It does need a good title, to do it justice and make the sensitive image more accessible.

You and thefantasim are excellent portraitists
I know, although she often places her portraits in
some context, to round out a vignette...... Now, that might be an interesting variation on this - but I wouldn't _change_ this, just make a variation.

Believe it or not, the title, was a struggle.
Took me almost 20 minutes to be sure.
Thanks for the lighting comment. That was the hardest part (mentally) to perfect.

Excellent shot, Michelle and I was particularly enthused that you left OUT the most obvious element - the spider. You've automatically made the viewer almost as apprehensive as the subject by searching the setting for the spider.

Her expression is perfect!

That's great, Michael! Thanks so much for the comment. :excited:

Jess was a perfect model in most respects, but this is the first time
her face needed a certain expression and it just wasn't jiving with what I
was going for in the manip.
Took me a little work to bend her outward reaction to match the unseen.

Working at such a small scale was a welcomed challenge. :)
